SPLAT Curriculum Review

Until recently, my church had used the same Sunday School curriculum since I was a young child. While it was an okay program, the books had no color, no extra activities aside from a fill-in-the-blank or word search, and didn't maintain the interest of my students. I talked to the other teachers, and they agreed that we needed a change. Our church only uses the Kings James Version (KJV) Bible, so that greatly limited our choices. Yet, we easily found the perfect one! We ordered the SPLAT curriculum from The KJV Store online and were super excited to try it out in our classrooms.

The name "SPLAT" just sounds like fun. Yet, it has a deeper meaning. "SPLAT" stands for Share, Pray, Learn, Apply, Tell. The books contain vivid colors and fun activities. As soon as I handed out the new books, one of my students said, "So, it's not the same boring stuff?"

"No!", I said. "I didn't know you felt that way. Please tell me if it's boring in the future. I don't want it to be boring."

Fast forward a few weeks, and my students are still loving the new books! They are much more engaged, and I really enjoy the lessons as well. Each lesson contains a section for each of the five categories of SPLAT: Share, Pray, Learn, Apply, Tell. There is lots of writing, coloring, and puzzle activities, as well as many games that get students up and moving around the classroom. I highly recommend this curriculum and hope we can continue to use it! The curriculum is created for grades Preschool through 6th. We also ordered some additional resources with our SPLAT books that I will share below.

Extra Resources

Tell Cards

One of my favorite parts of the SPLAT course is the Tell Cards. Each Sunday, a tell card is sent home with each student. This cards contains a memory verse and an activity for the students to do outside of class. I ask my students to memorize their verse to tell me the next Sunday. The activities include things like invite a friend to church, pray for someone special, etc. These are wonderful activities that help them tell others about Jesus.

Teacher Visuals

I also ordered the Teacher Visuals that accompany the lessons. While we haven't used them a lot, there are some really cool ones. They are printed on a large sheets of glossy cardstock. Some of the visuals are games. There is a punch out spinner game and dice game I am really excited to use with my students soon. Some of my students enjoy taking the posters home with them each week, so that has been really cool.
