Many teachers have recently found themselves thrust into the roll of online educator. As I have been in this profession for a while, I wanted to share some of my favorite teaching supplies to use in the online classroom. Click the name or photo to see more information for each item. Be sure to read until the end to see my absolute favorite tool for the online classroom!
Large Zipper Pouches - These large pouches are great for storing notepads, small books, and papers. They are mostly transparent, so it's easy to see what's inside.
Small Zipper Pouches - The smaller pouches are really great for storing cutouts, pencils, erasers, or anything small. I use them to store my teaching props by category. The bags are mostly transparent with colored edges, so it is easy to see what is inside. You can also fit these inside the Large Zipper Pouch for even greater organization.
EXPO Vis-A-Vis Wet Erase Markers - I use these markers if I don't want something to be erased too easily. You have to use a wet cloth to erase, so you don't have to worry about your writing getting removed from the board unless you want it to.
EXPO Dry Erase Markers - I use these markers constantly. Can you buy dry erase markers at Dollar Tree? Yes. Do they work a fraction as well as EXPO? Not at all! I definitely think EXPO markers are worth buying. I wasted a lot of money on cheap markers that last virtually no time.
Scotch Thermal Laminator - I have had my laminator for many years. It is so nice to laminate props or papers that I want to keep for a long time. Laminating items helps keep them from ripping as easily. Things can also be written on with a dry erase marker and easily erased.
Thermal Laminating Pouches - These pouches are much cheaper than the name brand ones, and they work perfectly well. You can buy smaller packs, but I prefer to buy in bulk to save money.
AlphaMagnets and MathMagnets - This set includes uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, punctuation, and math symbols. The magnets are colorful and sturdy. They make teaching letters, reading, math, and grammar fun and effective.
Hand Puppet - If you want to gain attention and smiles from your students through the screen, try bringing a puppet to class. The kids will love the surprise, and it will make class more engaging.
Monitor Stand - I got this stand when I first started teaching online. It's the perfect way to keep my computer at an angle that is conducive to teaching. My computer doesn't get overheated while sitting on it. The stand also has a long drawer with dividers that is convenient for storing supplies I may need during class.
Magnetic Dry Erase Board - If you need a dry erase board that is budget-friendly and magnetic, this one is great. I have used it quite often in my classroom. It is the perfect size for online teaching. The board is big enough to write a lot without being too cumbersome to hold.
EAI Education Magnetic Blank Dry-Erase Paddles - Set of 5 - While these boards are a bit of an investment, they are worth every penny. Each board is double-sided and magnetic on both sides. They're also extremely sturdy! I use these for almost every class I teach.
