Valentine's Day is a holiday when some people send flowers, candy, jewelry, and/or oversized stuffed animals to their significant others. They may go out to fancy dinners and exchange expensive cards. While the love a couple shares is one of the greatest forms of love, there is no greater love than that of Christ. He loves us unconditionally. Whether we are committing acts of sin or shining His light for all to see, He loves us still. He loved us enough to die for us. What love the Father has for us! When celebrating Valentine's Day this year, let's not forget the greatest love of all. Today, I'm sharing fun ways to celebrate God's love in your Sunday School classroom.
1. God is Love Booklet
Share this FREE downloadable booklet with your students to remind them of Christ's great love for us, as well as His commandment to love others. It includes 14 scripture verses about all things love.
2. Create Love Coupons
Grab these FREE downloadable love coupons for your class. Students can create coupons for their parents, grandparents, siblings, friends, etc. There are versions for mom, dad, and blank ones. Coupon ideas could include offering to do extra chores, giving hugs, or not complaining about doing something they don't enjoy.
3. What is Love? (A Study of I Corinthians 13)
I Corinthians 13 is often called the "love chapter", as it provides explicit instruction on what love is and how we are called to love others. After reading and discussing the chapter, students can create the tree below by cutting and gluing the hearts around the tree branches. Each heart contains one aspect of love from I Corinthians 13. Click the photo or link for a FREE download of the activity and instructions.
If you have older students, they can do the activity below. Instead of cutting and pasting hearts, they will simply list the aspects of love found in I Corinthians 13.
I hope this gives you some fun ideas to do with your Sunday School class this Valentine's Day. Thanks so much for reading! I hope you have a happy and blessed Valentine's Day! May you always remember true love as it applies to Christ Jesus!
