I've been reading books on decluttering and organizing to gain ideas and motivation for simplifying my home. Here are five of my favorites and why I enjoy them!
Dana does an excellent job of letting you know you're not alone in this process. She feels like an old friend helping you through a difficult situation. She's witty, kind, and straight to the point. She also loves Jesus. This is the best book I've ever read about decluttering, and it would be hard to top!
*BONUS*
She also has a book about how to manage your home. It is AWESOME! If you're up to your ears in dirty laundry and dishes, this book is definitely for you!
This was one of the first books I read about decluttering, and it is truly one of the best. Kathi Lipp gives you step-by-step instructions on how to create a clutter free home that you love and thrive in. Her ideas are extremely helpful and are broken down into steps to make decluttering simple for beginners.
You can't get any more basic and simple than Joshua Becker. He writes about decluttering in a way that just makes sense. There's no huge process of dragging everything out. He simply pushes you to consider new ideas. What if I didn't have all of this stuff? What if I tried living with less? How would this change my life? Isn't peace of mind worth more than possessions I don't even use or love? Bonus: He also loves Jesus. ;)
If you need visuals to assist you in the process of organizing your home, this book is definitely for you! It is full of gorgeous color photos and step-by-step instructions for how to organize your home in a way that is both helpful and beautiful. I could sit and look at this book for hours. Yes, I may have a problem.
Kondo has some unconventional ideas when it comes to decluttering, but they're worth looking into. While the idea of holding every single item you own can be daunting, it is very helpful in giving you the opportunity to see just how much excess stuff you own. While her process isn't the quickest, it works.
Happy decluttering and organizing!
